The National Unity Platform (NUP) has appointed Harriet Chemutai as the new chairperson of its Election Management Committee (EMC), taking over from Mercy Walukamba, who had served in the role since 2020.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the party’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, during a press briefing at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule.

Ivan Ssempijja was also named as the new deputy chairperson. Other committee members include Ssebuufu John Mary (Central region), Achoka Egesa Eddie (Eastern Uganda), Loum Patrick (Northern Uganda), and Julian Kabagambe (Western Uganda).

Rubongoya commended the outgoing team and urged the new members to serve with commitment and integrity. He noted that the party’s election preparation activities have faced obstacles due to interference from security forces. Chemutai, formerly the NUP coordinator for the Sebei region, pledged to strengthen the party’s election systems and integrity.
