At least three people all children have been killed by mudslides that swept through Nyalit, chesower sub county Bukwo district early Thursday.
The victims died on the spot when mudslides triggered by incessant rains hit Kapchekuportin and Rwandet villages located less than 3 kilometers from Bukwo-Kween border.
Local leaders have said the three deceased victims belong to one man only identified as Murefu a common Marson in the area.
Witnesses told Radio 9 that the rain which started at around 5:00pm on Wednesday affected three homesteads in Rwandet village destroying a kraal and killing several goats.
Police arrived at the scene this Thursday morning and bodies have been transported to the mortuary
The Bukwo- Kapchorwa road has been cut off after mud and debris buried sections of the route, isolating communities and disrupting transport. Security and disaster response officials have advised motorists to avoid the road until it is cleared.



Meanwhile, a devastating mudslide triggered by heavy downpour around 1 am Thursday morning struck Kaptang Village, Chepkwutus Parish in Tuikat Sub-county, Kween District,, leaving 6 people dead, several injured, with many others displaced.

Local residents, joined by community leaders and volunteers spent the morning digging through the rubble in search of survivors and bodies.

Speaking to radio 9fm, Mande David from Tuikat subcounty described the scene as “heartbreaking,” with homes flattened and farmland destroyed.

Locals in Kween District have since launched rescue and recovery operations, while calling for immediate support from the Office of the Prime Minister and humanitarian organizations.
