Bukwo: The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially launched the nomination process for individuals seeking leadership positions under Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the village level.
Sarah Iyolu, the Electoral Commission District Elections Administrator While appearing on a radio Talk show on Radio 9 FM Bukwo said The SIG categories include the elderly, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) — groups constitutionally recognized for special representation in governance.
She further added that The nomination exercise began on June 2, 2025, and will run until June 10, 2025.

During this period, eligible individuals may submit nomination papers to contest for leadership roles in their respective villages under the SIG framework.
Village-level elections for SIG leaders will then be held on June 16, 2025 for older persons, June 17, 2025 for PWDs and June 19th, for the Youth.

Sarah emphasized the need for all aspiring candidates to strictly adhere to the nomination guidelines and further warned the electorates on election related offenses which include among others Voter Bribery, Offering gifts, inciting Violence, destroying Election materials, preventing others from voting.
She also urged Members of the public to participate in the elections of SIGs
