In the news this morning, a dark cloud of sorrow hovers above Busoga and Kamuli district following the death of Maxwell Kuwembula Mugude the LC5 Chairperson of Kamuli district who perished in an accident this morning along the Kayunga-Kampala road.

According to a police statement by SSP Patrick Onyango, the accident happened at the Ministry of Water and Environment office in Nakifuma, along the Nakifuma-Kayunga road involving UBR 835K (Hacman, yellow) driven by an unknown driver and UG 699M (Toyota Hilux Double Cabin, white) driven by Kuwembula Maxwell, the LC 5 chairman of Kamuli District, who was heading to Kamuli from Kampala.

The LC5 boss died on the spot, and his body was found trapped in the wreckage. The driver of the truck fled the scene. Police responded immediately and are conducting inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. His body is lying at the St Francis Nagalama Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.

Preliminary findings indicate that the LC5 boss rammed into the stationary truck as he was reportedly returning from Kampala where he had gone to the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo to pick nomination papers.

Kuwembula becomes the 2nd Kamuli LC5 Chairperson to die in an accident while in office. Isabirye Baligeya Kalori the then district boss perished in an accident in 2004 with his wife Annet Baligeya at Budhumbula along the Jinja-Kamuli road.
